Imagine a Better World

“It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.” Nelson Mandela

A new painting started out as a message in my sketchbook where I wrote:

“This is just how I feel and I never get a chance to express it.”

“This is just how I feel and I never get a chance to express it.”

Why express a feeling through a painting?

I’ve researched this, and it’s true: it’s very common for white people to not know what to say for the Black Lives Matter BLM movement. I honestly don’t know how to verbalize what I feel, or if it even matters.

So, I try to stay quiet in my little corner, and I’m terrified to speak anything, even if it’s nice, because of the body that I am in. I never want anything taken the wrong way, so I say nothing.

If you’re white, too, does that sound familiar?

But - I do have a strong feeling about this, and that’s why I decided to bring it through in my art.

Here, I will share my feelings with you through art. Sometimes, Art speaks louder than Words.

The black and white pouring vases represent separatism, specifically with race yet extending beyond gender, appearance, disabilities, or religion.

When we are separate, we are defined as black or white.

The phrase “black and white” describes something boring, something old, or polar opposites.

But when black and white are invited into the same pool of water,
black and white do not become bland and gray:
they become the most vibrant colors
that are indefinable, extraordinary, and incredibly beautiful.

This painting also features an Asian woman, bringing to light the other nations and genders involved with the inequality happening around us.

Mandalas mean: inter-connectedness of our souls and the universe.

This mandala shows that we are infinitely connected and that we are all one. The mandala is the ripple effect that echoes when black and white unite.

We all belong together.

We are stronger together.

And it’s time to make this right.

The only way to make it right is with one thought, one word, and one action at a time.
