This painting started out as a message in my sketchbook where I wrote, “This is just how I feel and I never get a chance to express it.” The black and white pouring vases represent separatism, specifically with race. When these are separate, they are defined as black or white. The phrase “black and white” describes something boring, something old, or polar opposites. But when black and white are invited into the same pool of water, black and white do not become bland and gray: they become the most vibrant colors that are indefinable, extraordinary, and incredibly beautiful.
